
Secession and War: Karelia and Greater Finland
Soviet-Finnish hostilites between 1918 and 1922, in Finland called heimosodat, or "Kindred People's Wars", were centered on regions of Finnish, or White Army, advances into Finno-Baltic speaking areas.
The Estonian Civil War (1918-1920), for which thousands of Finns volunteered, the first Soviet-Finnish War (1918-1920) where Finland gained territory, the East Karelia uprising, which was an unsuccesful attempt to extend further into Soviet Russia.
From 1941-44, working with the Third Reich, Finland occupied Karelia.
